INDUSTRY ALERT !!! Well Head Unit Discards 50% of Signal !!!

An issue discovered in Well Tech units has been tested and found to discard 50% of the signal data from the pitting inspection function. The problem was discovered by OEM after thoroughly analyzing a Well Tech 3 unit.  A disconnected wire (shown in photos below) which carries half of the bipolar pitting signal data is not connected to any signal processing electronics or the digital chart deck program. All defect signal which is transmitted on the disconnected wire will be missed by the system operator, no matter how severe. This same dangling wire has been reported in two additional Well Tech 3 units to date.

  • News Update:  This problem has been discovered on a Well Tech 2 unit as well.  The wire in the Well Tech 2, however, was not left dangling.  Instead, the wire was physically connected into the header connector which is attached to the digital to analog conversion card, but the data was still ignored by the chart deck software.

  • OEM has designed and implemented an upgrade solution for this problem.  The solution has been installed and tested in both Well Tech 2 and 3 systems.

  • Is this the engineering quality level you want to base your inspection reputation on?

  • Do you think that “The worldwide (OCTG) tubular inspection industry now has access to the most sophisticated computerized pipe inspection equipment technology available, at any price.” as stated on the Well Tech 3 manufacturer's website?
